Mistaken identity
Consciousness witnessed the physical body, thoughts and patterns of experience. Consciousness then assumed there is a central perceiver, or 'I' that exists within the body/mind. Therefore, consciousness believed its own creation as being true and real. But the 'I' or 'me' is just another thought. Consciousness fooled itself. It was just a case of mistaken identity.

"I" belief
Where does the belief in "I" come from?
How is the belief sustained?
Who believes there is an "I"?
Is the 'belief' part of it just another thought that is assumed to be true?

Honest looking
As such, when looking at a philosophical question or idea, I would force myself to stare deeply into the possibility that it was true. No matter how much I wanted to discount that possibility, I would stare into the possibility that it was true. No matter how much I felt it was unnecessary to even investigate, I would stare into the possibility that it was true until that possibility whirled around my head and through my very soul.
Therefore real honesty means staring deeply, deeply, deeply into the possibility that something you don't want to believe in might actually, really, genuinely be the truth.
If you really want to disprove something, if you really want to fight something, you have to let go of your own preconceptions about it.

Nature of the mind
The nature of the mind is like a highly polished mirror.
Individual thoughts which arise are like the reflections in this mirror.

You're already seeing it
From your note above, it still seems to me as if you're somehow waiting for a magical moment. There is no magical moment. There is just recognizing that where there was thought to be a self, there is in fact NOTHING. Nothing as in NOTHING. There is not a no-self that needs to be seen. There is no self. Nothing.
If you could relax the tendency and desire for something special to occur, like the sudden revelation of No-Self, or the dramatic disappearance of self, you might even see that you're already seeing it, no self.

You are a thought
Identification....
Interesting concept.
Can you look at this process more closely? Right at this moment? What happens when there's identification with a thought or thoughts?
If you understand that there is no self, then can you see how there is no such thing as identification? No such thing as getting lost in thought, in the world? There is no one there. No one.
No one to identify with anything.
Just a concept of identification.
All of this, is just a play of concepts with no reference outside of the realm of thinking whatsoever. Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts.
That's all it is.
You can keep expecting the magic thought to arrive that will change everything, but it will never come.
You are a thought, nothing more.

Meta Looking
Look at life AS IF it is true that there is no you, that life's happening on its own.
Really get inside this viewpoint, this perspective.

Attention and 'sense of I'
Noticing attention just seems to go where it does, the 'sense of I' seems present when attention is focused on something. If attention is not focused on something, where is the 'sense of I'?
If attention is not focused on something, where is 'attention'?
What is the 'sense of I'?
Are 'attention' and 'sense of I' the same?
And if there's no me, and no-self is being seen and experienced right now, then it seems like its just a matter of seeing to be accepted.

Notice attention automatically focus on object movement, then content.
"Notice that the attention just seems to go where it does. While typing out a reply to this post, the phone may ring, do "you" turn your attention to it,or is there simply the presence of the sound. For example, how impossible it would be if there was the presence of a sound, but "you" had to do something to hear it? The sound is just present,"you" didn't have to do anything to hear it - did "you?"
