Snow and the Snowlessness - Scott Kiloby's Snow Metaphor

Now, let me use a snow metaphor. In this metaphor, snow represents thought. And the snowless atmosphere represents awareness. Thought is already happening. We don't bring it about. We don't sit here and decide to think. Thought just appears. There is no controller doing the thinking. In the same way, we don't bring snow about. . . When the snow stops there can be a deep recognition of quietness. . . Snowlessness is already here even during the snow. The snow is like an appearance within the snowless atmosphere. Without the snowless atmosphere snow cannot happen. Snow and the snowless space are inseparable. You can never experience snow without the space in which it is falling. So the snow is actually proving that the space is there. There is a prevailing belief that awareness disappears when thought is happening. . . Instead of employing a method to be rid of thought or find quietness or maintain it when it appears, just notice what is already happening. In simply watching the snowflakes fall, we see that their natural course is just to fall to the ground and be absorbed back into the atmosphere. Space itself does not prefer thought or the absence of thought. The thought that says "I like the quietness" is just another thought . . .Similarly, all states including quietness, loudness, thought, thoughtlessness are inseparable appearances of awareness. They are all the energy of awareness itself. There is no controller inside managing which one should appear. This provides a freedom that is tremendous. Everything is just allowed to be exactly as it is. It's all awareness. This is the end of applying pressure against our present experience in some attempt to find or maintain a state and so it is the end of seeking. And that is freedom.
